Burwood Community Garden

Kia ora. It's Huanui again, your ‘fan-trail’ guide.  Nestled at the bottom of Cresswell Avenue is a community garden and resting space.  Why don’t you join me here for a short break?

When the fruit trees grow bigger, we can both enjoy shade on hot summer days. Maybe they’ll get big enough for me to make a nest for my pīwakwaka offspring.

What else is planted in the garden?

Neil, who organises this community space, loves to share his knowledge of organic gardening. What would you like to know about growing your own food?

Dog walkers and human walkers also gravitate to the nearby area, which was once populated with homes and whānau. Kids and dogs continue to play in the wide open spaces that stretch across to the river. The Christchurch City Council also trialled it as a large event space, called Sector 7.
