Landmarks
Landmarks can carry personal and corporate stories. Locations and objects can be significant and meaningful to both individuals and communities. Often, we have an emotional response to them.
There are many such places that feature in our community’s and city’s history. Some of them feature on our trail map. Join me, Huanui, your fantail piwakakwaka mascot, as we visit those dotted along the trail (marked by a red pin on the trail map).
Why are these featured landmarks and locations considered important? What personal connection, if any, do you have with any of the sites? Do any feature in your family’s history?
As you travel the trail and explore the landmarks with me, make a note of your recollections and impressions, to share with others. You are also welcome to record your oral history (in written or video form) as a contribution to local history records.
Let’s go!
