Petition 2012
In May 2012 we delivered a petition signed by more than 18,500 people, asking parliament “to work with the people and local authorities of Christchurch to ensure the Avon River Red Zone becomes a reserve and river park when the home owners have to leave.
Blessed by City Councillors Peter Beck and Glenn Livingstone at Shag Rock, the petition travelled the length of the Ōtākaro Avon River to the Christchurch Airport for a flight to Wellington with Mayor Bob Parker. The petition was presented to MPs at the time Lianne Dalziel (Labour) and Eugenie Sage (Greens) by Avon Supporters on the steps of parliament on May 2, 2012.
