Since our inception in 2011, we have advocated for the former residential Red Zone to become a City to Sea river park that meets diverse community needs WITH the maximum possible restoration of indigenous ecosystems
Our first project the Mahinga Kai Exemplar at ANZAC reserve was first planted in 2014 and was the first restoration planting in the red zone with Ngāī Tahu, Ngāī Tūāhuriri, Department Of Conservation, Environment Canterbury and Christchurch City Council. The project is designed to show people what the rest of the green spine would potentially look like.
Other restoration projects include a collaboration with The GreenLab “Riverbend Refuge” plantings along the Dudley Stream and a community-led pocket park in Banks Ave.
